Pre-Treatment: The First Line of Defense

Pre-treating surfaces before a winter weather event is the most effective strategy for preventing ice from bonding to pavement.

Brine application: A liquid solution of salt (sodium chloride or magnesium chloride) and water is sprayed onto pavement 24-48 hours before a forecasted event. The brine prevents ice from bonding, making it easier to plow or melt.
