Texas Sage (Leucophyllum frutescens) — Also called cenizo or Texas barometer bush. Silver-gray foliage and purple flowers that appear after summer rains. Thrives in full sun and heat. Virtually indestructible.

Dwarf Yaupon Holly (Ilex vomitoria ‘Nana’) — Native evergreen shrub that handles anything DFW throws at it. Heat, drought, clay soil, part shade — it doesn’t care. Low-maintenance and versatile.
